My friend Hawke Robinson invited me to host a panel session at Tolkien Moot XI with Scott C. Brown and Andy Doperialski of Two Bards Productions. If you have heard of “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising” then you may recognize Scott as Flynn / Leo / Turk. Scott and Andy have recorded over 100 podcasts that you can browse/listen to on their Website.
We talked a little about Middle-earth and a lot about film-making, especially from the fans’ perspective (as in, fan films and semi-professional productions). I really enjoyed talking with the guys.
As for the picture of me in the video embed, that was chosen automatically by YouTube. I would have preferred to see Andy and Scott featured in the overlay image (or whatever it’s called). You can see them in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Tolkien Moot is a small gaming convention that started out as MERPcon many years ago. Hawke has always paid for everything, even when he was renting venues. In recent years Hawke moved the event to his home to save on expenses but he has always broadcast live sessions from MERPcon/Tolkien Moot and has quite a loyal following on the Internet.
Hawke also runs the local Tolkien Society smial in Spokane, WA, and he broadcasts their meetings on the Internet every month. You can watch more Tolkien Moot videos at the YouTube Tolkien Moot channel and the YouTube Tolkien Scholars channel.
