Sam Raimi has been receiving mail from fans of Legend of the Seeker who want him to produce a movie based on the television show. I loved the show myself and watched it every week. I was also privileged to be able to interview Craig Horner in December 2009 (the article was published in 2010). That was one of the most popular articles Xenite.Org published in a long time.
When news broke that the show was about to be cancelled I created the Save The Seeker blog on WordPress.com. It would be 15 months before I finally converted Xenite.Org to use WordPress software so adding a blog to this site was just not practical at the time.
Last month Xenite.Org helped organize and promote the #AllSeekersEve Halloween Twitter party (I’m not sure what you should call it). It wasn’t quite a Tweetathon. It was just a way to kick sleepy fandom into taking some kind of action again. Fans are dedicated, passionate people but they tend to be passionate about whatever is currently in production. That said, a lot of people have been sharing new pictures and artwork on Twitter and Pinterest, and I would like to think that the #AllSeekersEve campaign helped inspire that new burst of creativity.
This campaign coincided with a campaign for letters to Sam Raimi organized by Laura Ventura at SaveOurSeeker.com. If anyone deserves credit for keeping the fans organized and motivated through the last 4-1/2 years it is surely Laura. She has friends around the world who have worked hard to organize fan tables at conventions, produce videos, and take on all sorts of projects. I’ve done my best to support the campaign with what spare time and resources I have.
The letter contest ends November 10. Fans of the show have the chance to win some nice prizes (for sharing the letters they write to Sam). I’m not competing for any of the prizes as I feel like that would be inappropriate. But I have moved a few friends and acquaintances to help promote the contest and build awareness of the campaign. Fans should continue writing letters even after the contest is over. We want Sam to know there is real interest in reviving or rebuilding the franchise.
Xenite.Org is contributing free advertising for the letter writing campaign through November 9. It’s the least we can do. In fact, I wish we could do more but that takes a lot of time and creativity that I cannot spare. I’ve have also put together a few blog posts while asking other people to write about the campaign.
From this point forward it’s all up to you. Tell Sam Raimi you want a movie.
And no matter what happens between now and then, I am pretty sure we’ll be promoting All Seekers’ Eve in 2015 as well. Here is hoping it’s to celebrate good news.
